AIDS Candlelight Memorial

Op zondag 21 Mei aanstaande worden er in steden en dorpen wereldwijd AIDS Candlelight Memorials georganiseerd.

On Sunday, 21 May 2006, thousands of communities around the world will come together in solidarity to light candles and remember those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Organizations, individuals, governments, and faith-based communities coordinate the local observances. The organizing groups are considered "Local Candlelight Coordinators." The Coordinators receive all the necessary tools, including the official poster and the Coordinator's Manual, to help produce an effective Candlelight observance for their community.

Each year, Memorials take place in over 4,500 communities in more than 93 countries. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial has become the largest grassroots AIDS event in the world.

De lijst met activiteiten bevat (nog) geen Nederlandse vertegenwoordiging. Op de Memorial website kun je informatie en materiaal vinden over het organiseren van lokale activiteiten. Voor 'fundraising' en 'special guests' is het misschien wat kort dag, maar ook een kleine groep betrokkenen binnen een gemeenschap (zoals bijvoorbeeld je kerk) kan al iets betekenen.
